Can confirm on my current Model Y rental. There was a QR code for this. I'm much happier with the overall experience using the app.

Finally. I’ve been renting the Model 3 for Uber since May of last year and it’s annoying to only be able to open it with the card key

That was the one downfall of renting that I felt I wasn't able to get the full Tesla experience without the app.
