BrainChip Granted Strategic Patent on its Advanced Edge Learning Technology

BrainChip Holdings Ltd, the world's first commercial producer of ultra-low power neuromorphic AI IP, has announced the issuance of a new US patent, further strengthening its patent portfolio and showcasing its competitive research strength.

The recently issued patent, US 11,704,549, was granted on July 18, 2023, by the US Patents and Trademarks Office (USPTO). BrainChip considers this patent to be a valuable intellectual property asset that protects its unique approach to learning on a neuromorphic chip or system.

The key features of the patent include the protection of BrainChip's neuromorphic processor, which performs convolutions on digital input data converted into spikes. Importantly, this patent expands the protection already granted to BrainChip in a previous patent, enhancing its commercial value. Additionally, the patent safeguards the reconfigurability feature of a neural processor, enabling it to function as either a convolutional neural processor or a fully connected neural processor. This versatility provides a significant advantage in the development of multipurpose and cost-effective hardware designs like the Akida.

With the addition of this patent, BrainChip's portfolio now comprises a total of 17 issued patents, including 12 in the US, 3 in Australia, 1 in Europe, and 1 in China. Furthermore, the company has approximately 30 patent applications pending across various jurisdictions, including the US, Europe, Australia, Canada, Japan, Korea, India, Brazil, Russia, Mexico, and Israel.
