Elixir Energy's Grandis Gas Project: How Deep Will Daydream-2 Reach?
Elixir Energy Limited Makes Strides in the Grandis Gas Project
In a significant development for Elixir Energy Limited, the Daydream-2 appraisal well has officially been spudded, marking a crucial step forward in the company's Grandis Gas Project (ATP 2044) situated in the Taroom Trough of the Bowen Basin, Queensland.
Reaching New Depths
The Daydream-2 appraisal well is set to reach a planned total depth of 4,200 meters in approximately one month. This milestone comes as part of Elixir Energy's ongoing efforts in the exploration and development of the Grandis Gas Project.
Certification of Equipment
Prior to the commencement of drilling, Elixir Energy ensured the readiness of crucial equipment. The SLR 185 rig from SLB (formerly Schlumberger) and a new 10,000 psi blow-out preventer (BOP) have been officially accepted and certified. This signifies a critical stage in the operational setup, ensuring that the equipment meets the required safety and technical standards.
Third-Party Services in Action
To facilitate the drilling process, third-party services have been contracted and mobilized at this stage.

This collaborative effort involves specialized services necessary for the successful execution of the Daydream-2 appraisal well.
Project Background: From Discovery to Expansion
Daydream-2 is strategically located approximately five kilometers from the Daydream-1 discovery well, initially drilled by BG Group (now Shell) in 2011. Notably, Daydream-1 encountered a substantial gas-bearing column in the Permian section, showcasing the area's potential for gas resources.
Once the Daydream-2 well reaches its target depth at the base of this section, extensive logging will take place. Following this, the well will be cased and suspended, preparing for a major stimulation and flow testing program scheduled to commence early in the New Year.
Outlook and Excitement
Neil Young, Elixir's Managing Director, expressed enthusiasm about the progress, stating, "The spudding of Daydream-2 is just the start of a very exciting period for Elixir’s shareholders. " Anticipating success, Young highlighted the significance of this phase in opening up a vast new gas play in Queensland, strategically positioned to cater to both domestic and international gas markets.
