External hard drive cold storage? - I was just thinking about crypto wallets there with all this negativity surrounding Ledger at the moment.

My question is if you installed a desktop wallet on an external hard dive, put your crypto into it and then unplugged it, would it effectively render it a cold storage wallet until you plug it back into your device and connect to internet?

Has anyone tried this before? I’m probably not the first person to think this but I am just curious. It probably isn’t possible as most people would just be doing it instead of paying for hardware wallets.
