Liontown Resources First Production at Kathleen Valley Lithium Project expected by Mid-2024
The latest quarterly activities report by the Kathleen Valley Lithium Project has confirmed that the project remains on course to begin production by mid-2024. During the June quarter, significant progress was made in terms of mining and construction activities, with the first mill feed and Direct Shipping Ore (DSO) produced and stockpiled.
Commitment to Safety and Increased Site Hours Worked
The Kathleen Valley Lithium Project maintained its ongoing commitment to safety, with no Lost-time Injuries (LTI) recorded during the period covered by the report. The report also stated that the project had seen a total of 326,000 site hours worked, up from 211,000 in the March quarter, reflecting ramp-up of the mining and construction activities.
Full Open Pit Mining Services Contract Awarded
The report revealed that Iron Mine Contracting Pty Ltd had been awarded the full Open Pit Mining Services Contract. The company would be responsible for executing and completing surface mining operations for the next three years. The Total Material Movement (TMM) for the quarter increased to 1.

Technical Progress Made in DSO Strategy and Underground Mining Services Package The evaluation of competitive bids from tier 1 contractors for the Underground Mining Services package progressed successfully ahead of the anticipated contract award in August. The technical and commercial evaluation of the DSO strategy progressed as planned, with the execution decision anticipated in the September quarter.
Substantial Progress on Critical Infrastructure
The report noted substantial progress made on the process plant and power station infrastructure build. Structural steel erection commenced and substantially progressed on the dry plant, secondary screening and grinding areas, with the concentrate storage facility completed. The critical long-lead items, including SAG mill, magnetic separators, pumps, concentrate filters, and fine ore bins, all arrived on site as scheduled. The accommodation village is now 85 percent complete with 600 rooms commissioned and ready for use, and the hybrid power station is progressing well.
Prospective Commercial Opportunities
Prospective commercial opportunities, including an agreement to farm into Olympio Metals’ Mulline and Mulwarrie Lithium Projects have been advanced, according to the report.
The Kathleen Valley Lithium Project reported cash at hand as of 30 June of $305. 4 million. With a $300 million Ford finance facility, $118. 8 million was drawn down in the quarter, leaving $181. 2 million undrawn under the Ford Facility at the end of the reporting period.
