In a recent breakthrough, Maximus Resources Limited (ASX:MXR) has confirmed the presence of spodumene, a high-grade lithium-bearing mineral, in a significant lithium intersection at the Lefroy Lithium Project's Kandui site. This exciting discovery has raised hopes for additional lithium-bearing pegmatites to be uncovered in the area.
A Fruitful Exploration Effort
Maximus Resources has been conducting a systematic exploration program at Kandui as part of the Lefroy Lithium Project. Under the US$3 million (~A$4. 8m) Lefroy Lithium Joint Venture with the Korea Mine Rehabilitation and Mineral Resources Corporation (KOMIR), the company has been diligently testing the extensive 2km x 1km lithium soil anomaly alongside multiple outcropping pegmatites.
The first phase of the wide-spaced drill program is nearing completion and has provided valuable insights into the mineralization at Kandui. Assay results are expected in the next 3-4 weeks, which will shed further light on the project's potential.

A Strategic Location
Situated within the greater Lefroy Lithium Project, Kandui occupies a prime position in Western Australia's Eastern Goldfields "lithium corridor. " It lies approximately 20km south of the Mount Marion Lithium mine owned by Mineral Resources Ltd (ASX:MIN), a major player in the lithium sector.
This proximity to established lithium operations has positioned Maximus Resources at the forefront of the booming industry, offering significant opportunities for growth and development.
A Significant Advancement
Spodumene, the dominant lithium-bearing mineral, was confirmed in recent Reverse Circulation (RC) drilling at Kandui. The drilling intersected a high-grade lithium zone, including 6m @ 1. 11% Li2O from a depth of 90m, with a particularly encouraging 3m @ 1. 99% Li2O from 91m in hole KDRC007 (ASX: MXR Announcement 1 November 2023).
Maximus' Managing Director, Tim Wither, hailed this development as a significant advancement for the Lefroy Lithium Project. The correlation between the high-grade lithium intersection and the extensive lithium soil anomaly indicates the potential for further discoveries of lithium-bearing pegmatites.
State-of-the-Art Analysis Techniques
To determine the mineralogical composition of the drilled samples, Maximus Resources employed RAMAN spectroscopy. This advanced analysis technique utilizes laser light to study the chemical structure and mineralogy of the samples.
The analysis of samples from the intersected pegmatite in KDRC007 revealed that the entire pegmatite interval is mineralized with spodumene, with minor traces of mica minerals. This confirmation provides solid evidence of the deposit's valuable lithium content and highlights the immense potential of Kandui.
A Path Forward
With the tenement-wide soil sampling program in progress, Maximus Resources is rapidly building a robust pipeline of additional drill targets. The current phase of the program, covering approximately 50% of the tenement, is expected to identify further prospects for exploration.
Upon completion of the initial program, Maximus plans to embark on a larger-scale drill program in early 2024, utilizing the resources of the KOMIR Joint Venture.
