How Does Poseidon Nickel Plan to Explore the Underexplored Strike?
Poseidon Nickel Unveils New Exploration Targets at Windarra with High Nickel Potential
Poseidon Nickel (ASX: POS) has announced the identification of two new high-priority exploration targets, NW05 and NW04, at its Windarra project, marking a significant advancement in its exploration strategy. These targets were revealed through a stage one geological assessment, which has reinvigorated the nickel potential at Windarra.
The assessment covered 10km of the 21km basal contact strike, with the newly discovered channel structures showing promise due to the presence of a thick high magnesium basal flow unit and historical surface geochemistry indicating potential mineralization. CEO Craig Jones expressed optimism about the new targets and the company's strategic exploration objectives, highlighting Windarra's historic nickel endowment and the substantial opportunity for resource expansion.
Exciting New Prospects in Nickel Exploration
The recent geological assessment at Windarra has led to the identification of two new channel structures, NW05 and NW04, alongside the re-assessment of four previously identified targets. These discoveries are particularly promising due to several factors, including the recognition of thick high magnesium basal flow units and mineralization confirmed by resampling efforts.
Strategic Exploration Plans
Poseidon Nickel is planning high-priority exploration programs for NW05 and NW04, including additional soil sampling and reconnaissance drilling.

These efforts are part of a broader strategy to explore the underexplored basal contact strike at Windarra, with a stage two assessment planned to cover the remaining 11km.
Historically, Western Mining Corporation (WMC) mined over 114kt of contained nickel from the Windarra and South Windarra ore bodies. Despite ceasing operations in the mid-1990s, the project's existing resources stand at 148kt contained nickel, underscoring the site's significant nickel prospectivity.
Underexplored Potential
The Windarra Project is considered to be under-explored, with less than 4km of the 21km belt having undergone focused exploration activities. The recent discoveries and the outcomes of the stage one geological assessment highlight the substantial potential to grow the nickel resources through further exploration.
Collaboration and Expertise Drive Exploration Success
The exploration review was conducted by Mark Muller from Muller Geological Services Consultancy (MGSC), in conjunction with Poseidon’s geologists. Muller, a recipient of the 2020 AMEC Prospector of the Year award, brings extensive nickel mining experience to the project.
Comprehensive Geological Assessment
The stage one assessment included a detailed review of relogged drill holes, lithogeochemical verification, geophysical reviews, and field checks. This comprehensive approach has not only identified new exploration targets but has also validated the geological model for high-grade komatiite hosted nickel sulphides.
Poseidon Nickel's announcement of new exploration targets at Windarra represents a significant step forward in the company's nickel exploration efforts. With a strategic approach to exploring the underexplored basal contact strike and the expertise of seasoned geologists, Poseidon is well-positioned to unlock the full potential of the Windarra Project.
The company's commitment to expanding its highly prospective tenement portfolio through targeted exploration aligns with its objective to enhance shareholder value and contribute to the global nickel supply.
