Lindi Jumbo Graphite Mine Gears Up for Full Operational Readiness

Walkabout Resources Ltd is on the brink of inaugurating the Lindi Jumbo Graphite Mine in Tanzania, marking a significant milestone in the country's mining sector. With the successful completion of the initial commissioning phases and the finalization of construction and wet commissioning activities on the horizon, the mine is set to become the first modern, large-scale graphite operation in Tanzania. Despite logistical challenges, the project is on track for the first ore feed through the entire processing circuit, promising a new era for critical mineral production in the region.

Commissioning Milestones Achieved

Walkabout Resources Ltd has announced substantial progress in the construction and commissioning of its flagship Lindi Jumbo Graphite Mine. Following the initial successful feed of graphite ore through the crushing circuit in early January, the project is advancing towards the wet commissioning phase. This next critical step includes the first ore feed through the mine's entire processing circuit, scheduled within the next month.

Key Highlights:

Essential Equipment Receipt: All crucial equipment has been received on-site, facilitating the completion of installation works.

Wet Commissioning Phase: The commencement of wet commissioning, including the first ore through the processing circuit, is imminent.

Power Infrastructure: The Power Control Centre (PCC) has been connected to the grid, enabling the progression of dry commissioning across all circuits.

Team Readiness: The hiring and induction of the majority of leadership and operational teams have been completed.

Support Contracts and Facilities: Important support contracts are in place, with support facilities, including the camp, ready for the first production phase.

Overcoming Logistics Challenges

Despite significant shipping delays and port congestion at Dar es Salaam, the project has managed to receive the last of the essential mechanical and electrical equipment. This achievement allows for the initiation of wet commissioning. Backup generators and consumables are expected to arrive shortly, ensuring uninterrupted commissioning and operation despite potential power grid interruptions.

Processing Plant and Commissioning Update

The processing plant has seen the arrival of critical components necessary for the remaining construction and installation works. These include a burner unit, mechanical, electrical, and control equipment, among others. Commissioning activities have so far utilized mobile generators, with grid power soon to be available for the entire plant. The project boasts a fully commissioned crushing circuit, with other sections like milling, grinding, and flotation nearing full operational status.

Operational Readiness and Future Prospects

Recruitment efforts have been successful, with key management and staff positions filled. Key contracts for logistics, laboratory services, fuel supply, catering, and security have been secured, demonstrating comprehensive operational readiness. The temporary accommodation camp and mine offices are operational, with a laboratory and clinic to be fully functional shortly.

As the project nears its first ore feed through the processing circuit, Walkabout Resources is preparing for a conservative ramp-up to nameplate capacity. The company's offtake partner, Wogen Pacific, is in advanced negotiations with end customers, promising a bright sales outlook for the Lindi Jumbo concentrate.

The Lindi Jumbo Graphite Mine is set to become a cornerstone in Tanzania's mining industry, introducing a new era of critical mineral production. Through strategic planning, overcoming logistical challenges, and ensuring operational readiness, Walkabout Resources is poised to make a significant impact on the global graphite market. The successful commissioning and operation of this project will not only showcase Tanzania's potential as a mining hub but also contribute to the global supply chain of critical minerals.
