How Significant Are Viking Mines' Newly Identified Lithium Targets?
Viking Mines Identifies Significant Lithium Anomalies in Western Australia
Viking Mines Limited (ASX:VKA) has unveiled promising results from its recent 1,220-hole auger drilling program, highlighting the potential for substantial lithium deposits within its tenure in the highly prospective Ida Shear Zone, Eastern Goldfields of Western Australia.
This exploration endeavor has delineated nineteen lithium anomalies, with eight targets earmarked as high-priority for immediate further exploration. This discovery positions Viking Mines at the forefront of lithium exploration in the region, adjacent to notable projects like Delta Lithium Limited’s Mount Ida Lithium Gold Project.
Discovering Lithium Potential
The comprehensive auger drilling program, covering approximately 55km², has led to the identification of numerous lithium anomalies, characterized by high lithium values and favorable geochemical signatures indicative of LCT (Lithium-Cesium-Tantalum) pegmatite pathfinder elements. These findings are bolstered by the strategic location of Viking’s land package, now encompassing around 493km² in this burgeoning lithium district.
High-Priority Anomalies and Exploration Targets
Among the nineteen anomalies identified, eight have been classified as high-priority based on their compelling geochemical profiles, including high lithium values exceeding 50ppm, with peak values up to 138ppm Li, and low K/Rb ratios suggesting a fractionated source. These anomalies are grouped into nine target areas, with six groups containing the eight highest priority anomalies.

The anomalies exhibit associations with LCT Pegmatite pathfinder elements such as Sn, Tl, Be, Cs, Nb, and Ta, reinforcing their potential for significant lithium mineralization.
Methodological Approach
The exploration team employed a meticulous anomaly definition methodology, adjusting data to alumina levels to counter the effects of weathering on the sample results. This innovative approach has enhanced the precision of anomaly identification, providing a robust foundation for the prioritization of exploration targets.
Key Anomalies: Odin, Thor, Mjolnir, and Vidar
The Odin anomaly stands out with two large zones showing significant lithium values and a comprehensive suite of LCT Pegmatite pathfinder elements. Similarly, the Thor anomaly demonstrates exceptional lithium concentrations, supported by a strong geochemical signature of pathfinder elements. The Mjolnir and Vidar anomalies further underscore the project's potential, showcasing high lithium values and indications of LCT mineralization.
Future Exploration and Potential
Viking Mines is set to conduct immediate follow-up field work and exploration activities on these high-priority targets, aiming to advance these anomalies to drill-ready status. The company's exploration strategy is geared towards unlocking the vast lithium potential within its tenure, contributing to the growing lithium exploration momentum in Western Australia's Eastern Goldfields.
Viking Mines Limited's recent exploration results signify a major advancement in lithium prospectivity within the Ida Shear Zone, reinforcing the company's position in the lithium exploration sector. With high-priority anomalies identified and a clear strategy for further exploration, Viking Mines is poised to play a significant role in the development of new lithium resources in Western Australia, aligning with the global shift towards sustainable energy sources.
