Australian Strategic Materials (ASM) has announced the appointment of Mr Chris Jordaan as Chief Operating Officer (COO) effective 24 August 2023. With over 31 years of experience in operational and corporate leadership roles in petrochemical, processing, and mining industries in South Africa, Australia, and Papua New Guinea, Mr Jordaan brings extensive expertise and leadership qualities to the ASM Executive Management team.

Driving Operational Development

ASM Managing Director and CEO, Ms Rowena Smith, expressed her delight in the appointment, highlighting the crucial timing of Mr Jordaan's joining following the completion of EPC Definition work for the Dubbo Project and the establishment of early activities for the project. Ms Smith stated that Mr Jordaan would play an instrumental role in progressing the Dubbo Project, ramping up the Korean Metals Plant, and advancing the company's metallisation technologies, particularly its innovative LK Process.

Strategizing Mine to Metals Approach

Ms Smith also added that Mr Jordaan's skills and experience align perfectly with the company's mine to metals strategy, further advancing ASM's operational development while maintaining a strong focus on sustainable practices. The appointment is expected to promote the company's innovative LK Process, which aims to revolutionize the rare earths industry with an environmentally friendly, efficient technology.

There’s this idea floating around that throwing enough cash at Intel will suddenly turn them into the next TSMC. But semiconductor manufacturing isn’t something you can rush, it’s a complex, slow-moving process that takes years of precision and experience.

Intel could recover some ground eventually, but framing them as the savior of American chipmaking feels more like a political talking point than a practical reality.
