Invictus Energy Progresses with Mukuyu-2 Sidetrack Drilling in Cabora Bassa Basin

Invictus Energy Ltd, an independent oil and gas exploration company, is making significant strides in its quest to uncover high-impact energy resources within the Cabora Bassa Basin in Zimbabwe. With an extensive portfolio covering 360,000 hectares, the company has set its sights on the Mukuyu Gas Field and multiple Basin Margin prospects, holding promise for the future of energy exploration in sub-Saharan Africa.

Drilling Update: Mukuyu-2 Sidetrack

In its latest update, Invictus Energy reports significant progress in the drilling of the Mukuyu-2 well, a crucial part of its 80% owned Cabora Bassa Project. The drilling operations have reached an impressive Total Depth (TD) of 3,360 meters Measured Depth (mMD), as of December 11, 2023. This achievement marks a significant milestone in the company's exploration journey within the Cabora Bassa Basin.

Encounters in the Lower Angwa Formation

During the drilling process, multiple zones were encountered in the Lower Angwa formation. These zones exhibited strong gas shows and fluorescence, further reinforcing the potential of hydrocarbon-bearing reservoirs.

The presence of compounds such as methane, ethane, propane, butanes, and pentanes, consistent with the Mukuyu-2 original wellbore, has provided strong indicators of the presence of valuable resources.

Wireline Logging Operations

Following the successful drilling efforts and the conditioning of the wellbore, the company is gearing up to commence wireline logging operations. This comprehensive suite of wireline logging includes formation testing and sampling, sidewall cores, and a vertical seismic profile. The results from these operations are expected to shed more light on the extent and quality of the hydrocarbon reserves in the area.

Future Prospects

The completion of the Mukuyu-2 sidetrack well not only allows for in-depth evaluation through wireline logging but also sets the stage for potential future flow testing. This includes running a 7-inch liner over the interval, which enables the retention of drilling capabilities for the remaining portion of the Lower Angwa in 6-inch hole operations.

The previous discovery of a gas deposit in the Upper Angwa, along with the recent successes in the Lower Angwa, signifies the significant potential of the Cabora Bassa Basin for Invictus Energy. The company's ongoing efforts hold the promise of further uncovering untapped energy resources in the region.

Invictus Energy's dedication to exploring and exploiting high-impact energy resources in sub-Saharan Africa is bearing fruit. The progress in drilling the Mukuyu-2 sidetrack well, with its promising encounters in the Lower Angwa, sets the stage for a potentially transformative development in Zimbabwe's energy landscape. As the company continues to expand its knowledge and capabilities, it paves the way for future growth and success in the oil and gas exploration sector.
