Invictus Energy's Mukuyu-2: Unveiling Potent Gas Reservoirs in Zimbabwe's Cabora Bassa Project

Exploring the Depths: A Journey through Invictus Energy's Mukuyu-2 Sidetrack Drilling

Invictus Energy Limited, at the helm of the Cabora Bassa Project in Zimbabwe, is currently undergoing a momentous chapter in their exploration journey. The latest update on the Mukuyu-2 well, boasting 80% ownership and operation by Invictus, has stirred excitement as drilling operations unfold, uncovering promising indicators of robust gas reservoirs within the Zimbabwean terrain.

The Ongoing Drilling Saga

As the drilling saga progresses, the Mukuyu-2 well's sidetrack operations have been nothing short of thrilling. Pushing through the 8½” hole section, the well has diligently traversed to an impressive depth of 2,987 meters Measured Depth (“mMD”), steering closer towards the base of the Upper Angwa formation.

Elevated mud gas and fluorescence readings have punctuated this journey, marking the encounter with multiple zones exhibiting strong gas shows. The revelation of marked increases from C1 to C5 compounds—embodying methane, ethane, propane, butanes, and pentanes—mirrors the findings observed in the Mukuyu-2 original wellbore, intensifying the intrigue surrounding this unfolding exploration.

Charting the Course Forward

Looking ahead, the Exalo Rig 202, the stalwart companion in this exploration, is poised to forge ahead towards the Total Depth target, anticipated at approximately 3,400mMD in the sidetrack section.

This trajectory will delve deeper into the Upper and Lower Angwa reservoirs, zones that previously showcased promising hydrocarbon-bearing attributes in the Mukuyu-2 well.

Post the completion of the drilling phase within the 8 ½ inch hole section, meticulous logging, including wireline formation testing, will follow suit, leading to the revelation of final results. The strategic completion of the sidetrack operation is expected to pave the way for future flow testing. This will be facilitated by running the 7-inch liner, strategically suspending the well for prospective evaluations and tests, particularly focusing on the remaining portion of the Lower Angwa in the 6-inch hole. Notably, the original Mukuyu-2 wellbore had encountered over-pressured gas-bearing reservoirs in this segment.

A Glimpse into Future Potentials

The significance of the 4th of December, 2023, marks a pivotal juncture in Invictus Energy's journey. This chapter not only signifies a step forward in the exploration of Zimbabwe's Cabora Bassa Project but also heralds the potential for unlocking substantial gas reserves, pivotal for the country's energy landscape.

Authored by Invictus Energy Limited, this update sets the stage for an anticipatory gaze into the reservoir potential, igniting enthusiasm within the energy exploration domain. As the company maneuvers through the layers of the earth, the anticipation for uncovering sizable gas reservoirs amplifies, positioning Invictus at the cusp of unlocking a treasure trove of energy resources in Zimbabwe's heartland.
