Melbana Energy Makes Encouraging Progress with Alameda-2 Drilling in Cuba
Melbana Energy Limited (ASX: MAY), a 30% interest holder and operator of Block 9 PSC onshore Cuba, has provided an update on the drilling of the Alameda-2 well. The total depth for the current 8-1/2" section has been called at 1,597 meters measured depth (mMD), which is ahead of schedule.
During the drilling process of Alameda-2, the company encountered strong oil shows and high connection gas within the reservoir interval between 700 and 1,110 mMD, similar to the findings from Alameda-1. Furthermore, a third core was successfully obtained while drilling through the Unit 1B reservoir, and it will be sent for laboratory analysis to assist with resource definition.
Preparations are now underway to run wireline logs over the recently completed section before setting the 7" casing string in place. Moving forward, the plan is to drill ahead in a 6" hole to reach the total planned depth of approximately 1,960 mMD, with the acquisition of one additional core along the way. After wireline logging is conducted across the final open hole section, flow tests will be performed on Unit 3, which is the primary target for Alameda-2.

Cased hole testing will also be carried out on the appropriate shallower units encountered in the 8-1/2" hole section.
Andrew Purcell, Melbana Energy's Executive Chairman, expressed his satisfaction with the progress of the drilling, stating, "We're ahead of schedule and encouraged by what we're seeing. " He added that the next steps include running logs, drilling to the planned total well depth, and commencing flow tests in the primary and secondary units.
Melbana Energy continues to make significant strides in its drilling operations, and the company remains committed to maximising the potential of the Alameda-2 well in Cuba.
