Vulcan Energy Resources Makes Positive Land and Permitting Progress for Phase One of Zero Carbon Lithium™ Project
Renewable energy producer and carbon-neutral lithium developer, Vulcan Energy Resources Limited (ASX: VUL, FSE: VUL) has reported positive local development and permitting progress updates for Phase One of its Zero Carbon Lithium™ Project in the Upper Rhine Valley Brine Field.
The Landau City Council has formally approved entering contractual negotiations with Vulcan to acquire land for the construction of the company's Integrated Geothermal Renewable Energy and Lithium Extraction Plant. This plant will form part of the Phase One construction of Vulcan's Zero Carbon Lithium™ Project. The construction is on schedule as Vulcan has secured a site at Frankfurt Hoechst for its Central Lithium Plant and land for the main brine production sites. Additionally, Vulcan plans to extract carbon-neutral lithium and to supply carbon-neutral renewable heat to the city from the planned G-LEP site in the Landau industrial park "Am Messegelände Südost".
Meanwhile, the State Mining Directorate has approved the Main Operating Plan for Vulcan's wells in its Insheim license area. Vulcan is already operating commercial geothermal wells and plant and plans to increase brine production by adding several production and injection wells.

The lithium-rich brine will flow through pipelines to the planned facilities in the Landau industrial park to produce green energy. In the Lithium Extraction Plant, the lithium will be extracted from the brine before returning to the subsurface.
The decisions from the local Landau City Council and the State Mining Authority are a significant step forward in executing Phase One of the project. It is a positive signal by the local authorities about the Zero Carbon Lithium™ Project. Moreover, the exploration permit for the "Ortenau II" exploration field extended until the end of 2025, and the Neustadt City Council requesting negotiations on planned deep geothermal projects with Vulcan, further strengthen Vulcan's position for future project phase ramp-up.
Vulcan’s Chief Development Officer, Thorsten Weimann, expressed his enthusiasm for the collaboration with the Landau City, which has a goal of creating a sustainable future for the community. He emphasised the company's efforts to educate local stakeholders about the Zero Carbon Lithium™ Project and looks forward to continuing the fruitful working relationship.
