It's not uncommon that in a crash that the doors are physically unable to be opened due to the body warping and jamming the door or the other vehicle bring crashed up against it. In other cars, if the child lock is on then there's no way to open the door from the inside.

Like how you should teach your kids how to escape your house if there's a fire, you should do the same in your vehicle so they are familiar with the scenario should it be needed
Reading manuals on a 120 year manual door latch? How about not changing for the sake of being different?
