What Are the Initial Results from Woomera Mining's Ravensthorpe Drilling Program?
Woomera Mining's Ravensthorpe Project: A Leap Forward in Lithium Exploration
Woomera Mining Limited (ASX: WML), an emerging player in the mining sector, has made significant strides in its exploration program at Ravensthorpe, situated in Southeast Western Australia. This progress marks a pivotal moment in the company's exploration endeavors.
Initial Drilling Achievements at Ravensthorpe
Woomera has successfully completed the initial phase of its ambitious 26 hole/3,000m Reverse Circulation (RC) drilling program at the Ravensthorpe project. This phase, comprising 7 RC drill holes for 877 meters, is part of a broader strategy to explore lithium potential in the region.
Exploration in Mt Short JV and Mt Cattlin
The drilling targets the Mt Short JV (Joint Venture) and the wholly-owned Mt Cattlin tenement. The company aims to build upon historic pegmatite intersections on the Mt Short JV and lithium geochemical anomalies identified on the Mt Cattlin tenement.
Significant Pegmatite Intersections
Of the seven holes drilled in the Mt Short JV area, five have intersected notable thicknesses of pegmatite, totaling 213 meters.

Pegmatites, often associated with lithium deposits, are a key indicator of potential mineralization.
Laboratory Analysis and Expected Results
Samples from these drillings have been dispatched for laboratory analysis. Initial assay results are anticipated by mid-late January 2024, which are crucial to confirming lithium mineralization.
Continuation of Drilling Operations
Drilling operations are set to resume early January 2024, following a brief hiatus for the Christmas/New Year period. Ravensthorpe projects, encompassing a combined area of 103km2, are strategically located within the same greenstone belt as Allkem’s Mt Cattlin lithium mine, hinting at a promising geological setting for lithium exploration.
Upcoming Exploration Plans
Four RC holes remain to be drilled beneath historic pegmatite intersections at the Mt Short JV, aiming to further understand the subsurface composition and potential mineralization.
Focus on Mt Cattlin Tenement
Following the completion of drilling at Mt Short JV, fifteen RC holes will be drilled on the Company’s 100% owned Mt Cattlin tenement, specifically targeting the two strong lithium anomalies identified earlier in 2023.
Auger Sampling Program and Future Insights
In addition to RC drilling, Woomera has undertaken a comprehensive 1523 sample auger program across the Mt Short JV. This program, conducted on a 400x50m spacing, marks the first exploration and assaying for lithium in this area.
Anticipation for Assay Results
Assay results from this auger sampling are expected in February 2024. These results will provide further insights into the lithium potential of the area, supplementing the data gathered from RC drilling.
Woomera Mining’s Strategic Exploration Endeavors
Woomera Mining's exploration activities at Ravensthorpe represent a significant step in lithium exploration in Southeast Western Australia. The strategic approach, combining RC drilling with comprehensive auger sampling, aims to uncover the full potential of the Mt Short JV and Mt Cattlin tenements. With the mining industry keenly observing, Woomera Mining is poised to potentially uncover a new frontier in lithium resources, contributing to the ever-growing demand for this critical mineral in various industries.
