Why Has Anson Submitted a Proposal to Sample Historical Oil Well at Green River Lithium Project?
Anson Resources Limited (ASX: ASN) has recently submitted a proposal to re-enter the Mt Fuel-Skyline Geyser 1-25 well in its Green River Lithium Project in south-eastern Utah, USA. The company aims to test supersaturated brines found within the historical oil well and determine their lithium content. This marks the first phase of a drilling program designed to establish a JORC Mineral Resource at the Project.
Highlighting the Key Points
Anson submitted a Plan of Operation (POO) to the USA's Department of the Interior, Bureau of Land Management (BLM) and a Notice of Intent (NOI) to the Utah Division of Oil, Gas and Mining (UDOGM), Minerals Division. These regulatory submissions are essential for obtaining permission to proceed with the drilling program.
Additionally, an Application Permit to Drill (APD) has been submitted to UDOGM, considering the depths of the wells involved. The proposed well pad is located in the central region of the Green River Project claims, east of the Green River itself.

Exploring the Mississippian Units and Pennsylvanian Clastic Horizons
The first step in Anson's exploration program is to re-enter the Mt Fuel-Skyline Geyser 1-25 well. This well was previously drilled to a depth of 9,508 feet and intersected both the Mississippian units and the Pennsylvanian clastic horizons. It was noted that these zones contain supersaturated brines.
To confirm the lithium content of the supersaturated brines, Anson plans to sample the thick Mississippian units and the Pennsylvanian clastic horizons during the re-entry of the well. The company aims to convert the large Exploration Target into Indicated and Inferred Resources based on the results.
Leveraging Geological Structures and Porous Horizons
Anson's exploration program targets the highly porous horizons created by the geological structures in the region. The presence of "seeps" in the area further confirms the porosity of these horizons.
Completing Necessary Surveys and Overcoming Potential Issues
Before proceeding with the drilling program, Anson has already completed environmental, cultural, and land surveys. Fortunately, no issues were found that would hinder the program.
Looking Ahead
Anson's submission of the proposal and regulatory documents represents a significant step towards exploring the lithium potential of the Green River Lithium Project. By re-entering the Mt Fuel-Skyline Geyser 1-25 well and sampling the supersaturated brines, the company aims to unlock a valuable JORC Mineral Resource in this geological region.
