Why Has Krakatoa Resources Resumed RC Drilling at King Tamba Now?
Resumption of RC Drilling at King Tamba: Krakatoa Resources Advances Exploration
January 9, 2024 - Krakatoa Resources Limited (ASX: KTA), a prominent player in the mining industry, has announced the recommencement of its Phase 2 pegmatite exploration drilling program at the historical tantalum mine, King Tamba. The company's stock, represented by 472,107,220 fully paid shares, remains a significant focus in the financial markets, especially in light of these recent developments.
Returning to Exploration: Crew and Contractors on Site
After a brief hiatus, the exploration crew and contractors have returned to the King Tamba site, signaling a major step forward in the company's exploration endeavors. The King Tamba project, known for its tantalum past, now sees Krakatoa pivoting towards lithium potential, a strategic move given the increasing global demand for lithium in various industries.
Drilling Progress: Past Achievements and Future Plans
In December 2023, Krakatoa completed 27 Reverse Circulation (RC) drillholes, covering nearly 4000 meters. As of January 9th, the team is set to resume drilling, with a target of 22 additional RC drillholes. These are expected to extend for approximately 2000 meters, strategically positioned over the three southernmost drill lines, as indicated in Figure 1 of the report.

Timelines and Expectations
Krakatoa anticipates that the drilling program will be completed within the next 14 days, a timeline that suggests both efficiency and urgency in their exploration process.
Drilling Results: Unveiling the Subsurface
The drilling conducted to date has yielded significant pegmatite intersections from multiple drillholes, as reported on December 21, 2023. The mineralogy of these pegmatites is varied, primarily consisting of quartz, feldspar, and mica, with occasional traces of accessory minerals like fluorite and tourmaline. Notably, large pegmatites showed consistent continuity, whereas smaller ones exhibited more erratic distributions.
Insights into Lithium Potential
While the presence of pegmatites is a promising indicator, it does not conclusively confirm lithium mineralization. Pegmatites are known to be associated with lithium, caesium, and tantalum mineralization, but not all contain significant quantities of these elements. Assaying is required to confirm the presence of any mineralization.
Looking Ahead: Krakatoa's Strategic Vision
As Krakatoa Resources continues its exploration at King Tamba, the focus on lithium brings the company into the limelight of the growing electric vehicle and renewable energy sectors. The completion of this drilling program is not just a milestone for the company but also a potential pivot point in meeting the global demand for lithium.
The recommencement of RC drilling at King Tamba by Krakatoa Resources marks a significant stride in the company's exploration efforts. With the global market keenly watching, the results from these drilling activities could have far-reaching implications, not just for Krakatoa but for the lithium supply chain as a whole.
