Why Invictus Energy significant drilling update is creating excitement?

Post image

Invictus Energy Ltd, an independent oil and gas exploration company focusing on high impact energy resources in sub-Saharan Africa, has provided an exciting update on the drilling progress at its Cabora Bassa Project in Zimbabwe. The project encompasses a vast area of 360,000 hectares within the Cabora Bassa Basin, and specific focus is on SG 4571 and EPOs 1848/49, which hold promising prospects like Mukuyu and multiple Basin Margin prospects.

Multiple Hydrocarbon Bearing Zones Identified

Preliminary wireline logging operations have been completed at the Mukuyu-2 well, and the interpretation of the wireline logs has revealed the presence of multiple hydrocarbon-bearing zones in the Upper and Lower Angwa reservoir sands. These zones show coincident intervals that exhibited elevated gas shows during the drilling process.

Resolving Minor Challenges

Although the logging operations took slightly longer than expected due to a minor tool failure, the team successfully undertook an additional wiper trip to clear a restriction across a shale interval in the Lower Angwa. This obstacle was preventing the wireline tools from reaching Total Depth (TD) and acquiring data over the entire hole section. They also conducted the wiper trip to circulate excess trip gas out of the hole.

Ultimately, the restriction was resolved, and primary logs were acquired down to TD.

Next Steps: Downhole Fluid Sampling

Following the completion of the ongoing wiper trip, the team will commence the downhole fluid sampling program for the Upper and Lower Angwa zones, which is expected to be completed within the next 24 hours. These samples will provide crucial information about the composition and characteristics of the hydrocarbons present.

Further Calibration and Completion of Sampling Program

In order to ensure accuracy, the log analysis will be further calibrated using core and fluid samples obtained from the well. The fluid sampling program is anticipated to be finished in approximately 2-3 days, depending on logging conditions and the number of fluid sampling stations.

Looking Ahead

Invictus Energy Ltd's drilling update has generated considerable excitement within the industry. The identification of multiple hydrocarbon-bearing intervals in the Upper and Lower Angwa reservoir sands is a positive sign for the potential of the Cabora Bassa Project. As the fluid sampling program progresses and the gathered data is thoroughly analyzed and calibrated, the company will gain more insights into the resources present in the area. This update marks another significant step forward in Invictus Energy Ltd's pursuit of unlocking the energy potential in Zimbabwe's Cabora Bassa Basin.
