Why is Ionic Technologies Ramping Up to 24/7 Operation in Early 2024?

Ionic Technologies, a subsidiary of Ionic Rare Earths Limited, is ramping up its operations to 24/7 production at its Magnet Recycling Demonstration Plant in Belfast, UK. This move comes as third-party interest in Ionic's recycling technology continues to grow, with potential collaborations on the horizon. The increased capacity will allow Ionic to produce larger quantities of rare earth oxide (REO) for sampling purposes.

The company is also progressing with a collaboration with Ford and Less Common Metals, with an initial production run planned for February 2024. Moreover, Ionic is actively identifying potential engineering partners for a full-scale commercial magnet recycling facility in Belfast.

Ionic Technologies, a pioneer in neodymium-iron-boron (NdFeB) permanent magnet recycling, has experienced a surge in interest from third parties seeking sustainable rare earth supply chains. As a result, the company is expanding its operations to meet the rising demand.

Key Updates on Ionic Technologies:

Transition to 24/7 Production: From early January 2024, Ionic Technologies' Magnet Recycling Demonstration Plant will operate around the clock, increasing the production capacity of rare earth oxide (REO) for samples.

Emerging Supply Chain Collaborations: Several potential partnerships have emerged with rare earth metal, alloy, and magnet manufacturers, as well as Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) and Industrial organizations interested in utilizing Ionic's technology.

Equipment Delivery and Installation: The Demonstration Plant has received all necessary process equipment, with the majority already installed in preparation for the ramp-up.

Progress in Process Control System: The installation and commissioning of the process control system are expected to be completed by the end of 2023, paving the way for 24/7 operation.

Feasibility Study for a Full-Scale Facility: IonicRE is currently finalizing the shortlist of potential engineering partners for a Feasibility Study of a commercial magnet recycling facility in Belfast. The study is expected to commence within the next few weeks.
