Invictus Energy Advances Exploration at Mukuyu-2 Sidetrack with Promising Results

Invictus Energy Limited, a key player in the Zimbabwean oil and gas sector, has completed wireline logging operations at the Mukuyu-2 sidetrack well, part of its 80% owned and operated Cabora Bassa Project. This operation has yielded a comprehensive dataset, including rotary sidewall cores and a vertical seismic profile (VSP).

Fluorescence Observed in Reservoir Sands

The team observed fluorescence in sidewall cores retrieved from reservoir sands within gas zones. This fluorescence is indicative of the presence of liquid hydrocarbons, notably in areas where drilling mud is not present. This finding is significant as it further confirms the potential hydrocarbon richness of the area.

Recovering Valuable Hydrocarbon Samples

A total of 15 hydrocarbon samples were recovered from the Upper and Lower Angwa reservoirs. These samples, which include gas and liquid hydrocarbons, will be sent for laboratory analysis to determine their specific compositions, including condensate gas ratios (CGR).

Preliminary net pay estimates for the Mukuyu-2 well across these formations are 34. 9 meters, comparable to early-stage discoveries in significant hydrocarbon basins like the Albertine Graben and Perth Basin.

Identifying Further Potential in the Mukuyu Field

Significant additional gross sands have been intersected in the Upper and Lower Angwa gas legs, suggesting potential beyond the current net reservoir cut-off. These findings, along with future calibration with core and fluid data, hint at additional upside in the Mukuyu field. Further technical evaluation and appraisal activity are required to fully ascertain the resource size.

Unlocking Potential in the Wider Basin Area

The Mukuyu-2 discovery holds positive implications for other prospects within Invictus Energy’s extensive Cabora Bassa Basin acreage. Wireline logs suggest that formations like Pebbly Arkose and Dande contain residual hydrocarbons, presenting additional exploration targets for future campaigns.

Preparing for Future Flow Testing and Evaluation

Invictus Energy is preparing to run a 7-inch liner in the Mukuyu-2 sidetrack well, facilitating the well's suspension for future flow testing. This setup also provides an opportunity to re-drill and evaluate the remaining portion of the Lower Angwa in future operations. Over-pressured gas-bearing reservoirs encountered in this interval are yet to be fully evaluated.

Integrating Discoveries into Future Exploration Strategy

The results from Mukuyu-2 will be integrated into Invictus Energy’s geological and geophysical datasets, informing future exploration and appraisal activities across their expansive acreage. The successful completion of wireline operations and the promising findings mark a significant step in the company’s exploration efforts in Zimbabwe’s Cabora Bassa Project, potentially leading to substantial developments in the region’s hydrocarbon exploration landscape.
