Why the Appeals for nVittangi Mine Permit Rejected? Talga Group Ltd Provides an Update

The Talga Group Ltd ("Talga" or "the Company") has recently shared an important update regarding the permitting of their Nunasvaara South mine, located in northern Sweden. This mine is a crucial source of natural graphite used in Talga's green Li-ion battery anode production, known as the Vittangi Anode Project.

On April 5, 2023, the Swedish Land and Environment Court approved the environmental and Natura 2000 permit for the Nunasvaara mine (ASX:TLG, April 6, 2023). However, following the decision, several parties expressed their desire to appeal the court's ruling and sought leave from the Swedish Land and Environment Court of Appeal ("Court of Appeal").

In a recent announcement made on August 31, 2023, the Court of Appeal confirmed that it has found no valid grounds to grant leave to appeal to any of the parties. This means that the Land and Environment Court's decision to grant the environmental and Natura 2000 permit for the Nunasvaara mine now stands.

Upon hearing this news, Talga's Managing Director, Mark Thompson, expressed his satisfaction with the outcome and emphasized the company's commitment to mitigating any potential environmental impacts associated with their projects.

Thompson mentioned that Talga has diligently followed the regulatory procedures, ensuring a comprehensive and transparent permitting process. He also expressed his enthusiasm in continuing the work on this critical project for European green battery production, alongside the local community and stakeholders.

In accordance with the statutory process, the parties whose appeals were rejected have until September 28, 2023, to further appeal the Court of Appeal's decision to the Supreme Court. However, the Supreme Court would only consider an appeal if there is a need for the development of case law or if there are special grounds such as a miscarriage of justice or a gross error in law. If no appeals are filed, the Nunasvaara environmental and Natura 2000 permit would come into force.

This news has been authorized for release by the Board of Directors of Talga Group Ltd. For additional information, interested individuals can contact Mark Thompson, the Managing Director of Talga Group Ltd, or Nikki Löf, the Group Communications Manager, through the provided contact details.
